I say steeple or 800m. 5k and 10k are usually just jogging until the last few laps. Marathon is cruising until 20 miles, race for the last 10k.

Yes. I've coached in both WC and Oly Games, and have coached athletes in individual events too. There is no debate... a decathlon in global championships is the most 'exhausting'.
vote would be 800m or 400m hurdle
To watch is the sit and kick 10k. No other event is a boring as that.
At first I thought you said Olympics wide in which case I was going to go with 10k open-water swim.
For T&F it may very well be racewalking.

The sprints are WAY more boring. There's always some moves in the 10K and you don't know when they will happen. It's excruciating watching those guys line up, false start, then line up again for 10 minutes, then run a 10 second race.
