Are half-inch spikes actually a good idea during meets where conditions are poor?
We mostly hear that teams will break out half-inch spikes during meets that are wet, rainy and muddy. That is what I have always assumed you would do as well.
However, some have said recently that the trade-off is not actually beneficial. While the half-inch spikes might provide more traction, they can also carry more mud and dirt with you, weighing you down and causing more traction problems.
So:
Are there any conditions where half-inch spikes are actually helpful?
And if so, what conditions are they best for?
And what conditions are you actually better off just sticking to normal spikes?
