Actually they do. As you get older, the supporting
structures of the foot weaken and the foot flattens
out and becomes longer and wider. Circulation also
decreases with age and many people experience swelling
in their feet.
My foot has always been within a 1/16th of an inch of 12". I have stepped off many a distance pretty accurately. I just measured it. 11'11 15/16", the same as a teenager. I started in size 10. I now wear 11 and even 11 1/2 in some shoes. I am not buying the "flattening, circulation, swelling theory" as the answer to changing shoe sizes. I am not doubting it is possible, but not in this case.
