I'm an 800m and 1600m runner and I run 4x400m and 3200m on occasion. I've been using the New Balance MD800v4 for the past 3 years. I loved the spikes, but the plate has worn down and now I'm looking for something new.
Right now I'm considering the Nike Zoom Victory 3 and Saucony Ballista 2. The Nike Zoom Victory 3 is a really highly rated mid distance spike, but it's listed as ideal for 1500m-5k distance. My best event is 800m, so I'm hesitant to get the Victory 3. I know that mid distance spikes are flexible in terms of events and will probably still work well for the 800m, but I want something more aggressive for the 800m and the occasional 4x400m.
The Saucony Ballista 2 looks like a more aggressive option, but I couldn't find any reviews and they seem to provide little support for longer distances. I'm fine switching to my old spikes for the 3200m, but I want my new spikes to be good for 1600m as well as 800m, and I'm not sure the Ballista 2 would be.
If anyone has experience with the Victory 3 or Ballista 2 or has any other recommendations for their favorite 800m and 1600m spike, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
