Prediction:
1- Vivian Cheruiyot (2:23:38)
2- Mary Keitany
3- Molly Huddle
4- Netsanet Gudeta
5- Mamitu Daska
Good weather, good competition between Vivian and Mary, I think Mary tries again to go for a very fast time and the winner breaks the CR. 2:21:00 by ... Mary Keitany.
Don't discount Allie winning by a LARGE margin.
I don't get people picking Molly Huddle. She hasn't shown herself to be a marathoner.
Her coach said in april she was in sub 2:20 shape. She was third in NY for her debut. Don't count this year's Boston marathon.
Mary will win with authority What does the following quote mean? Why is there an "*"
There are a slew of other Americans in the field, some (Sarah Sellers, Allie Kiefer, and Stephanie Bruce) with World Marathon Majors success. We guarantee* however they won’t win on Sunday
Vivian Cheruiyot will be your winner.
7 Americans in the top 10.
They've already stacked the deck.
I’m sure Mary, Vivian, or one of the other non-Americans listed will win, but in my famtasy world, Molly Huddle wins :)
Word around beaverton is that shalane is really really fit, so i think she'll perform well. I doubt she could beat the east Africans if they perform well at this stage of her career

I could see her coming out with a surprise performance, possibly a PR if Mary/Vivian/etc. Take it out fast. I don’t see her taking the whole thing though. I could be eating my words come Sunday.
Desi has had 13 years of strength. With her new speed approach I would have to pick her as first American.
Is there going to be a be a prediction contest?
Unlikely that the fix will be in 2 years running, especially as there's no "resilience" to show this year.
Of course, some sort of political-related outpouring the next couple of days may move USA sentiment again, and the fast Africans will "happen" to have problems.
Man, the women's race is super tough to pick, especially 3rd place. I want to go Gudeta for 3rd, but I think an American will take third. Hard to pick 1-2 also.
1. Kietany
2. Cheruiyot
3. Flanagan
I guess that's my pick. And I'm not saying Kietany and Cheruiyot for sure go 1-2, I just think they're strong 1-2 picks (obviously) with the 3rd-seed being a toss-up.
Perhaps the best potential of any marathon debutante ever.
I think Gudeta will win.
there is a rumor Molly has been given shoes with carbon springs by Saucony to match vaporflys
if that's true and she choose to use them, it would be a first and then it's her race to take be because her natural vdot is higher than even Shalane right now
those rooting for Allie, sorry but she weighs literally 30 pounds more than Des, so the highest BMI of all the elite women in the race, and while the trampoline-effect of the vaporflys helps negates that and she doesn't have to carbo-load because of maurten, her natural vdot is still too low to be a contender (go look at her track times before vaporflys) she doesn't just race in vaporflys, she now has to train in them which is ridiculous
I'd suggest Stephanie Bruce is the unknown, she has had the shoes with springs all year now from Hoka and has been killing it at altitude, she could podium
I'd like Shalane to podium if only because it's a nice way to wrap up a career and she deserves it
I honestly don't think either will win and hope so
Stephanie Bruce could get to the Podium if the Africans have a bad day, She can compute with the Americans at any given day, the sad thing is her couch does not believe she could make it to the Olympics and could beat the Americans, the like of Shalane and Desi. Her couch believes if a runner does not make it to the Olympics on their 20's will not make to their 30 or 40's.
