college/university practice times

My son played D1 soccer at a very good program. Their practice blocks were from 7-11 Monday through Friday. I don't know if they always went up to 11 but the time was reserved for them. It must have worked ok as he double majored in Business and Economics and also had a short stint (1 year) as a professional player overseas.

It always seemed odd to me as I was used to classes in the mornings XC/T&F practice from 2-5.

This was back in the 90s, but we had track/cross country practice between 3:00-6:00PM. The days we had weight lifting workouts we did those at 7:00 AM. Morning runs were on our own so not set time for those, except if we had a morning run the day of weights, then we would get that run done before 7:00 AM. I always took morning classes and was usually done by noon. It was nice because then I had solid block of time before practice to study, or squeeze in a nap.

Practice was usually at 3 or 4, but being a d3 with not that great of a team, it really depended on athlete's class schedules. One fall, because everyone's class schedules conflicted, practice was at 6 am. That sucked. I'd double by running again after classes. Late in the season, it got to where we were pretty much running in the dark and coach let those who could make it do some workouts in the afternoon.

4-7 sounds like a good time for practices, for the most part. I liked to take one or two 3 hour night classes a semester which at my university were 6-9. This freed up time during the day, so I could be done with classes by noon or 1.

My team goes at 3 everyday for cross country. For track, every group has a different time blocked out so that the track is occupied from 7am-6pm everyday. For track, distance goes 3pm on MWF and 7-11am on TTh.

Thanks all - this was helpful. I especially like the idea of different event groups getting the track at different times - I've seen some serious collisions on the track when sprinters are wearing resistance bands and other groups are doing intervals.

i played d1 soccer. In the winter we used to have 6:30-8:00 morning practices where kids would leave early for 8AM classes. I think it was a net positive.

6:45 am distance practice all year long

3:00 pm track and field practice all year long

Depending on lacrosse practice schedules we will have individual workouts between those times.

XC: 6:30 AM 4 days a week, 1 day in the afternoon, rest on your own. Unofficial lifts during the week that you are expected to attend if you don't have class.

Track: 4:15 practice every day of the week. Attendance depends on your event groups. Distance sometimes met in the morning. Often times there were class conflicts.

My college was a big ten school, we had roughly 11am - 5pm most week days blocked off.

Some of the sprints would be at the beginning of that, then long sprints-mid distance, then distance would come in around 3-3:30. Jumps would be at the beginning of that slot, throws closer to the distance side. This was for indoor track because the building was also used for rec events. The outdoor track was pretty much open for just us all the time.

In the south it's too hot to have XC practice in the afternoon at the beginning of the year so we have 6:30 am fall and 3 pm spring with the rest of track

Are you asking if the college blocks out time with no classes?

My college (P5) every sport practiced at different times and you just had to schedule class around the class time. Additionally, we got no advantages in scheduling classes, so if classes filled up at your desired time, sometimes you had to schedule around that.

Track practiced in the early afternoon. Generally I would schedule morning classes.
