Find a pack to run in.

This, drafting is your friend. Don't go out hard and alone either unless that's how you always run.
If winds are truly over 40 mph and the race is in the States, not to worry, they'll cancel it.
My 10k track debut had winds at 25 mph, gusting at 40 mph. My best advice would be to drop out of the race if you're trying for time. If it's an important race for place, do it. I wish I would have not wasted an effort and just ran the 5k the next day (5 mph winds). It wasn't a big meet or anything. I was just trying to get a qualifying time and I had to make another attempt later in the season.
I can't remember for sure, but I think I might have raced once in windy conditions during my 30 years of racing. I'm still here, having a coffee, and for whatever reason, reading your snowflake post.
Go run and deal with it.
OP, did you run the race? How did you do?
Swear I wasnt trolling initially, but the weather was fake news. Got there and winds were around 15 mph, not bad at all. Course was an absolute mud pit though. I did alright with a 5 sec PR, but fell twice and kept crashing into people, so hoping on hard ground this week to get more for the effort I put in
Who races on a Monday?
Just bumping this. I'm going to be running a 1500m this weekend and winds are projected between 21-27 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph. My time goal isn't that lofty (4:00), but I'll be one of the fastest people there, I hope. How should I adjust?
if you're the fastest person there, don't go for time, just sit behind the pack and go with 300m left
Work hard against the wind, but realize there are diminishing returns to extra effort. Moderate your effort into the wind and try to draft.
I grew up in windy area. Windy day races I treated like a fartlek workout.
I went to high school in one of the top-five windiest US states, and counted maybe three track meets over four years where winds were not at least 25 mph. Meets with 40 mph winds are not uncommon in the middle of the country.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Jakob Ingebrigtsen has a 1989 Ferrari 348 GTB and he's just put in paperwork to upgrade it
