Hi,
I've just read THE PHYSIOLOGY OF TRAINING THE DISTANCE RUNNER by Dr. Joe Vigil powerpoint sheet.
It says:
Optional training volume for an 800 runner is: 1800-2100 miles (3000-4000km), and 2400-3000m (4000-5000k) for a 1500m runner.
VDot calculator says: a sub 5min 1500 "equals" 18:17 5k, 38:16 10k and a 1:24 hm.
I do know that "equal" must be took with a grain of salt. Sooo... equalsish :)
And we know that world class / great / good mid distance runners also have great 5k, 10k times. Not world class times on those distances, but most definitely not bad results at all!
So a time crunched recreational runner who has time for running 3000-5000ks a year (while maintaining work, family, other responsibilities) and wants to run okayish on 5k, 10k, hm on local city races, why shouldn't one train like a mid distance runner, and do the 5k/10k/hm specific work for the last let's say 2 months?
No, this is not a troll post, I do want to know your opinion. Thanks!
