Background:
I'm 33, I've been running for 4 years so far, no coach, just running for fun. I got into the sport to lose the beer belly but got addicted and built up to running twice a day - I love running to and from work as it clears the head and saves loads of money. I live 8 miles from work so I cover around 80 miles from Monday to Friday commuting. Usually around 7:30 pace. It saves money too.
Recently I've been training for a marathon as I wanted to complete one and so added a 2-2.5 hour long run every Sunday which I run as fast as I can - usually 6:30 pace or quicker
Yesterday I ran a marathon and I ran 2:40 with very even splits. I kept expecting to fall apart but I just didn't.
The Goal:
I think I can run faster with a specific plan - like sub 2:30 would be amazing as that sounds proper fast to me. But I don't really know how best to approach this. Like.. more miles? or same but a faster pace? I want to keep the commute running if possible.
Can you guys on the board help write a tailored training plan to help me get significantly faster?
Strengths: I've never had an injury so I think my body can take a lot of training, if that's what it takes. I have lots of energy - i slow down because I'm out of breath, not because my legs/body is tired.
Weaknesses: I'm naturally slow, I was never fast at school and running much faster than 6:00 pace is noticeably harder
Thanks!
Ben
