Texas is full of some of the friendliest people you’ll meet anywhere.
In Houston the humidity and traffic are annoying, however, the low cost of living combined with good wages makes up for it!
Get used to hearing y’all and dressing up by wearing a cowboy hat and some nice boots instead of a suit!
Football, football, football! And the past couple of years... Astros, Astros, Astros!
Figure out where it hasn’t flooded the past couple years and live as close to work as you can (as long as it’s not in a few sketchy neighborhoods near downtown and a couple of the universities in that area) to avoid the traffic.
I hope you like beer! And brush up on playing Washers.
A lot of people do attend church, but I haven’t experienced anyone trying to get me to go to their church in the 10+ years I’ve been in Texas.
Texans do think this is the best place in the whole world, so you just have to smile and nod when that happens. I’ve lived all over the US, so I know better...
And what’s with everyone hanging out on their front porch, and kids playing in the front yard (and picnics in the front, etc)? Everywhere I’ve lived, that’s all done in the BACK yard. I’ve seen so many birthday parties on my street taking place in the front yard! Whole families out there, picnic tables on the front lawn. I don’t get it.
