I have a job transfer that is moving me to the Texas. I've only ever lived in the Western US before: SF bay area, Phoenix area, and originally from Eugene. What should I expect moving to the South? I've never even visited anywhere in the South before.
I'll be in the Houston area. I work in tech.
How long will it take me to get past the annoying (IMO, I know some people probably like it) drawl? Or are so many transplants there now that the accent won't be that prevalent? I haven't visited yet, will be looking at apartments and making a trip to meet the new team in a few weeks. I will need to live there at least 2 years for this position, but then will be able to move back to the West after that, assuming I don't like living in the South, but maybe I'll enjoy it, who knows?
