What time is that race? Does eurosport have a webcast?
It happened an hour ago. He ran 9.87 and had the wind on his back.
I predict 9.69 before the season is over.
Eurosport.com.........Live Audio from 18.00 European time
I saw his 9.85 at Ostrava. On a cold, wet evening, a couple of the other sprinters were still close to him at 70mts when he just took off.
Discounting any drug insinuation, I haven’t seen such an impressive acceleration in those last 30mts since Ben Johnson in the Olympics.
Logically, in perfect conditions, he should cream the WR.
But I’ve noticed in the past, despite the many occasions it’s forecast they‘re about to go - it’s rare for a world record to fall compared to the many times it’s announced an attempt is to be made on it.
Your full of shit right? It's live now on Eurosport and hasn't happened yet.
i am.
The Athens track is fast and the weather is good.
The odds are gone out to 5/1 maybe the bookies know something?
results will be here:

Men's 100m 18:52 Semis: AWAY THEY GO! POWELL EASING AWAY!! 9.99 AND HE WAS EASING DOWN IN THE LAST FORTY METRES! He's been talking about breaking the world record and if he pushes himself, that looks very much on the card...he coasted that with embarrassing ease.

I just don't know what to think about Powell. Everybody always talks about how relaxed he looks in races and how he just "walks" the last 30-40m and still wins. The thing is, he did the same thing during the first few rounds of the 100 at the Olympics, so everyone (including myself) was thinking he would just own the field in the final. But he got 4th? I wonder how capable he ACTUALLY is of running well below the WR. In the 100, relaxing or cruising the last 30m or so actually produces a faster time than those who attempt to further accelerate at that point, right? I'm not saying he won't break the WR cause I'm no expert. But I'll believe it when I see it.
ok this is legit this time, eurosport had powell in 9.78, tying the world record:
Men's 100m 19:42 A hush round the stadium as they take to the blocks for a second time...still only a disappointing crowd in the Olympic stadium...POWELL AWAY WELL!! EVER SO WELL! THERE'S ONLY ONE MAN IN IT! 9.78 EQUALS THE WORLD RECORD!! SENSATIONAL RUN!!
I stand corrected.
I think Asafa thinks he's going to run 9.79, and 9.78, and 9.77, and..... I think he's just raking in the bucks, and HE THINKS he's just going to go out there and break the record when he wants to. Personally, I think it's going to come down just like the Olympics, and by the time Helsinki comes around, it wouldn't surprise me if there's no WR and no medal either.
In the Olympics early rounds, Asafa "made a statement," just like he's doing now. But as Charlie Francis put it, he spent his wad early and he didn't have it for the final. Powell is running way too many races at a high level and can't keep this up for too long. Gatlin has run 9.84, beating Powell (again), and Gatlin's only done it once. If anybody is going to break the WR Justin looks to me to be the guy.
Well you and I held a similar opinion and were both wrong. I assumed he would eventually crack 9.80 with all these 9.8 perforances he's had. But I'm still wondering if he'll run under 9.70 as some of these folks think he will.
