Without hijacking, the truth about PEDs boils down to this: PEDs favour money. If you have more money or better support, you get better PEDS. Not all PEDs are created equal, and running to me is all about equality of effort. You can live in Kenya or LA, if you have more talent or run harder, you get the podium. A free-for-all of PEDs says 'Sure, but only if you can afford the best PEDs, the best endocrinologists, the best support staff". All told, you win only if you have the best and most Western training complex.

Oxandrolone probably was a drug used at the time by Carl Lewis, Flo Jo, JJK, East Germans, Russians, and even Distance Runners.
I love that Ben is going to put the lab notes on his website for anyone to see. I sure hope a bunch of interested experts can really make sense of what happened (I don’t support Ben’s drug use, but do think he wasn’t fairly treated).
I love that as time goes on Ben's legacy is being restored. That Olympic final was probably the greatest hyped up track event in history and it delivered 100%.
Ben was obviously scapegoated afterwards but, as time goes on and ALL these guys have been revealed as "cheats", the fact that Ben was the true great of that time - drugs or no drugs - seems pretty clear.

There is the more recent case of italian walker Alex Schwazer who was banned for eight year in the run-up to Rio 16 (second offense) for testing positive to Testosterone. The guy, while admitted doping at the time of the first ban, has always strongly denied doping from the second test claiming his urine samples have been manipulated by WADA.
While this has not avoided him the ban, and has forced him to retire, he has involved the Italian judiciary system which has slowly started investigating the issue. It turns out that where is there is smoke there is fire. The link attached is in Italian with all the main steps of this saga and you can use Google to translate it. But here is the gist:
- The WADA lap in Cologne refuses to handle both A and B sample for over two years.
- The Italian judiciary orders them to do so - they initially refuse and then comply, against IAAF will, once they are threatened with legal action
- They handle eventually a B sample that has been opened and is not the original one. Once it is made clear that they get sued miraculously the find the original A and B samples and hand them over.
- The claim that there was not enough urine as basis for not handing the samples is shown as a lie as it turns out the B has 15ml and not the claimed 2-3ml
- An analysis of both samples show there is three times more DNA in the B sample than in A sample, which point to manipulation of the sample.

For distance / cycling athletes maybe but for sprinting?
What advantage are your "best" / exclusive PEDs going to give you in these events?

Not all steroids are created equal. This is a pretty big "mistake" by a "professional" lab.
I used to work for WADA for a little while (nothing to do with the legal department). All I can say is that they're at the mercy of the labs that test and manipulate DNA and Urine samples. They're pretty much reacting to lab results.
Of course we couldn't tell if the directors and lawyers were corrupt, but WADA is really trying to make a difference in the sports world against this losing battle.
I would blame corruption at the lab level first before WADA.
