Nearly fell out of my chair today when I was talking to our ad sales guy and asking him how the swim run even the puts on went and he told me Lance Armstrong competed along with Olympic triathlon champ Simon Whitfield.
Turns out Lance's lifetime ban only applies to cycling.
Lance and Simon finished 3rd overall in the SwimRun even in Washington state on the Orcas islands. I'm sure some LRCer can even breakdown this type of performance.

Looks fit. Based on extrapolating run/swim speeds I'd say he could rip a 58.xx ten miler on flat roads

If I ever see him race another endurance event again it will be too soon.
I'm also going to say screw Simon Whitfield for racing with him. I'm reassessing my thoughts on Simon's stance on doping and his Olympic performances after this.
This goes to show you that Lance is an athlete to the core. It's easy for a bunch of hacks to give him sh.t, but not a single one of you has ever found yourselves in the position he was in when it came to doping. It was either get with the program like nearly everyone but Bassons or find another career. I don't condone it, but I certainly understand why he chose to dope. If I was in his position I guarantee I would have to.
What's not so easy to cast aside is the fact he was a total ahole to so many people while trying to hide it.
Anyway, glad to see he's still racing. Most of the other former champions you guys probably look up to are fat and no longer compete or even exercise.

Anyways, Lance has continued to bike a ton. He competed in his local Aspen Fiddy 50mile mountain bike race here in Aspen two weeks ago. He's fit and has been training for the SwimRun stuff locally.

Assuming they are both standing, I am shocked that Armstrong is that much taller than Whitfield. I would have thought Whitfield was 5’11”/6’ and Armstrong 5’9”.
I am also disappointed that Simon would associate with such a prick.
Looks a lot fitter than his marathon training days when he was a good 20 -25 pounds heavier than his cycling weight.
LA was a calculating Ahole and I’m glad he got busted . He was a very good cyclist on the sauce ( like many) but in the end he got it . Treated everyone like $hit ! God , what a loser in life
I don't care about his doping in a sport where everyone dopes.
He made a massive positive contribution to the fight against cancer, and that matters more to me than the other.

The vicious attacks, lawsuits, and threats against his detractors was over the top and unnecessary. Those people have every right to hold him in contempt. Had he conducted himself more humbly like many of the others (re: Indurain, etc..), the contempt would not run so deep. Regarding the PEDs themselves - it was pretty much join the club or get out. The saddest thing of all is that Tygart's goal of bringing him down was to fundamentally change the sport forever (eliminate the PED culture) - a dream that has yet to materialize and quite possibly never will.
I doubt most people care when he shows up for a race, at the very least it's a great carrot. Imagine your name in the results above him - booyah!

Yeah, I dunno about Whitfield... Reckons no doping in Tri when he was racing, which is total BS. It was a free for all. Nobodies disappearing in to the jungles of Thailand only to emerge as world beaters. Nuh-uh. Anyway, don't care either way, but it's galling when an athlete is constantly banging on about how clean they were when there's no way of knowing either way. But good on them for getting out there. No problem with a couple of has beens swimming in their running shoes, and nor should anyone else, frankly.
Article on letsrun.com about Justin Gatlin? It will say "convicted doper Justin Gatlin." Article about Armstrong? Need to get to the 6th paragraph to see a drug ban mentioned.
Both men are 5'10'' yet Lance appears several inches taller because he's standing on a higher rock. How was Whitfield able to take that crap like this?
I'm a big fan of Lance and it is good to see that he hasn't let himself go and is still fast. I'd like to see him do another marathon. It would be nice to see him get a pb.
Does he spend any time with his kids ?
