That would be SIr George Mallory, a legendary figure who once held two American Records back in the olden days while at the same time became the first man to reach the summit of Mt. Everest.

There used to be a good steepler named Jorge Malloy, who was Irish-Puerto Rican. He fell to drinking and gambling and his times crept above 8:30 , 8:40, etc. Then, while he was passed out in an alley in the Castro district of San Francisco, a homeless man stole his wallet, a pair of Tiger Jayhawks, and a regional champ medal from when Jorge was in high school. With this new identity, the homeless man, delusional and drunk, post occdasionally from an internet cafe.

Mallory wasn't American he was British...which makes it even more amazing that he held American records! But since he didn't make it down off the mountain (when some think he may have summitted, being therefore the first to the top of Everest, though not the first to survive the experience) and return home, he was never knighted, and does not earn the Sir title.

So, to sum up, malmo is a dead british mountain climber who lied about his citizenship to set two American records back when that was easier than setting British records.
