As I was watching the Berlin Marathon. It dawned on me that the women didn't get their own striped shirt pacers. They were surrounded by men and just seemed to blend in with the rest of the crowd. I assume that some of those men were in deed pacing them and some were probably just using them as pacers.
The real question is, shouldn't they have other women as pacers? The berlin marathon pays men to pace, why cant they hire women pacers as well. This seems to be an unfair practice for the sub elite women that could make a little extra cash by having some pacing jobs.
Where are the women pacers???

Women start at the same time as men at Berlin. It's easy to organise pacers for the men because they're running at the front of the entire crowd.
The women had personal pacers - coaches/husbands/training partners.
If women started before the rest of the crowd then race-supplied pacers would make more sense.
It's not a sexism issue. -
The women have a crowd to run with but the men would be alone. Also, there are not sufficient women to pace even if they started ahead of the men. This has been discussed before. There is way more disparity in women than men.

Dumb question, but is it still the case that a women's world best at Berlin would not count as a world record, due to it not being a woman's only race? Or did the IAAF back peddle on that rule?

In other words, the depth of women's running isn't as great as men's. There are fewer women out there capable of running times close to the world record who aren't already top marathoners. -

You get the point. Forgive me for not re reading my comments, as letsrun is the place for proper grammar. -

He's saying there's a lot more good male runners than female ones. The female runners good enough to pace a world record marathon attempt would not be pacers, they would be competitors in the race. -

Why don't the women run as fast as men? I hope you're not insinuating that women are inferior because let's face it, it's 2018, and they can do everything a man can do!

Josh also pointed out that the male pacers were obligated to try and hit a certain pace, whereas the pacers the women brought with them could adjust as the women wanted as the race flowed.
