Strava HELP! Runners angry at cyclist for stealing Strava KOM/Segment

I could use some advice. My running friends and I have cultivated a little rivalry on Strava where we try and take each others KOMs/Run Segments. Its sort of fun because we get to "race" each other whenever we feel like it. Strava is really fun for this.

But I messed up big time. I took my running watch on a bike ride with my girlfriend. I then accidentally uploaded that data without changing it from run to ride. Suddenly my ride took the KOMs/Segments of some of the popular routes my friends and I run. I didn't realize at first but then some of my running friends gave me the cold shoulder and said I was a cheater. It took over a week for me to figure out that they thought I cheated to steal their KOM/Run Segments.

HELP. All my friends think I cheat at Strava and don't believe me when I say it was a mistake.

Easiest fix of all time. Delete the bike ride. Comment on your buddy’s re claimed record runs, “Sorry! Accidentally had a bike segment on there. I’ll be back to take this segment on foot next week haha” or something similar. End of thread.

OP here. That was the first thing I tried to do. The ride is long deleted. The problem is that no one believes me that ride was an accident. One of the guys said I take things to seriously and so I probably cheated to "win." People think I am claiming "I accidentally logged it as a run" as an excuse because I got caught!

Sounds like the problem has already been solved. If your friends don't believe you, that is there problem. Don't get worked up about it.

If they called you out, it must have been pretty blatant, in which case it should have been obvious it was an accident.

OP Again. The reason I mentioned my Gf in the bike ride is because thats why the bike time wasn't super fast. My GF and bike a little under 15 mph, which is 4 min mile territory. If I had been riding solo, my speed would have been faster and thus the it would be more obvious that it was a mistake.

No one is giving me any good advice as to how to regain the trust of my fellow runners...

Do it again in a couple weeks. This will look even more like an accident because you wouldn't be stupid enough to try to cheat the same way a second time after already "getting caught"
