If she asks around her Embassy (esp. local staff) and other embassies, she'll soon find other runners and groups/coaches. Addis has a huge running community but is quite polluted and the traffic gets crazy after 730am or so. When I lived there I ran at 5am to avoid the craziness and I would definitely suggest running in a group for security...and get your rabbies shots for the packs of stray dogs. If you have kids, or can get invited by someone who does, ICS has a 300m track. You could also check out Yaya village just outside Addis (at 3100m). They have a pretty decent gym, 400m packed dirt track and coaches and training partners for hire. Mo Farah goes there periodically for his altitude training as do a number of other international athletes. Bekele has a track next door but not sure if it is for public use or if coaching is offered. Could be worth checking out. There are great dirt roads in the Entoto hills but security can be an issue (from humans as well as baboons so, as in the city, run in groups). If you want to do some serious hill training the road up to Entoto Maryam Church is quite decent but very steep in parts. Jan Meda racing ground often has local XC races and training groups. If you pop by the Great Ethiopian Run office, I am sure they could put you in touch with coaches and groups as well. Definitely do run the GER 10k in November (probably only charity tickets are available now) and the Hawassa half marathon in February. Make sure she does at least one run on Meskel Square. For more social running, there is also an Addis Hash House Harriers group. Good luck. Addis is a great place to be a runner!
