So I am a 800, 1600, and 2k steeplechase runner in high school. I occasionally run the 400h because my school is fairly small and only has one other guy who can run the hurdles but other than that, I rarely do any event under 800m. We had time trial at the end of track season where all of the runners had to do 3 events; 60m, 300m, and 2000m. Needless to say, the sprinters pretty much died in the 2000m, the distance guys looked like they were walking the 60m, and the middle distance guys dominated the 300m. After I ran the 300m I found out my time was a 38.0. I didn’t think too much of it until I looked at the conversion tables and saw that was about equal to a 53 or 53.5 in the 400m. I thought that seemed a bit odd as I only run a 2:08 in the 800m and a 53 400m sounds quite a bit better than that. Then I started thinking that if I could do that without any “real” speed work, what I could do if I had the actual mid distance training. I don’t want to jump the shark so I wanted y’alls oppinion, for indoor and outdoor, should I work on mid distance (400m, 400h, 800m) more or just stick with the races I do now. My other times are 4:44 1600m, 7:09 2k steeple, and 1:04 400h. Thanks
