Who was the idiot that decided pro runners should run 1500m?
It's not a natural number of laps around the track and it's not double the distance of the previous event like all of the earlier race distances.
It's not even a single somewhat used unit like the mile or marathon.

Euros and their weak work ethic came up with the 1500. Don't want to have to work 40 hrs a week. Don't want to have to run a mile.
The only races they willing run more than what might be considered standard are the 5000 and 10,000 and they've taken to jogging the majority of the race for those distances also.

The 1500 goes back to the 1800s when people would bet on people racing three laps around a 500 meter track. The 3000m and 5000m I don't know.

1600 meters is easier to officiate/administer. THAT is the reason, and I can't blame them for it. What I can't understand tho is the 300 IM hurdles. Goes against my previous stated logic.
Smart states run the 400m hurdles. Iowa runs 400 hurdles but runs 1500 and 3000 for girls.

300 hurdles, money saver, less hurdles, also good time saver, takes less time to set up.
