Hey everyone, this is my first time posting here. I am running at half marathon at the end of September, but don’t really know what time I should be aiming for. I have run on and off since high school (started at about 16, ran my 17:34 5K PB back then, now 23), but have been training seriously since the end of March. My training looks like this:
Monday - Easy run
Tuesday - Speed
Wednesday - Easy
Thursday - Easy
Friday - Tempo
Saturday - Rest
Sunday - Long run
Average mileage 50-55
Almost all easy runs are 8-8.5 miles, in anything from 7:05 - 7:30 pace, usually around the 7:10 - 7:20 mark. Sometimes go 9.
Speed work are things like 15x400 with 90s rest in 72-75 (not crazy hard), 10x800 in 2:40-2:45 on hilly country roads, and 6xMile in 5:50-5:55 on hilly county roads.
Tempo runs are 6-10 miles usually.
Long runs are 12-14 miles, usually get after the last 4 miles a bit.
Milestone workouts: 2 weeks ago I ran a 10 mile tempo in 63:08 and it wasn’t too hard. Last week I ran a 10k (new PB) in 37:41 on hilly country roads, slightly downhill overall, that was a good hard tempo effort. Today I ran the same 10 mile tempo in 62:14, a good effort today, quite a bit easier than the 10k effort, route was slightly downhill overall, and not hilly.
I ran 1:29:25 for 13.1 miles in my 13.5 mile long run last weekend, and I ran the first 7.5 miles fairly easy, the following 1.5 more briskly and I got after it a bit on the last 2.
What kind of time should I be aiming for in my half marathon? What kind of mile splits should I run? Are there any workouts I should do before my race? All advice appreciated!
