Has anyone ever tried fasting or utilized a pure juice diet during their base building phase?
If so what were your results?

Starvation and a slow, laborious, agonizing death.
Enjoy.
why would you do this? You do understand its a bad way to lose weight. If it is for religious/spiritual reasons just do it.
yes i have, in fact i did it yesterday. I refuse to do any fast over 36 hours though. I find that it makes the days training very difficult, but you do it a couple times a week and it's a good way to lose pounds fast. Also, the other days I cut the calorie count down to about 1500-1600 per day.
I fasted for about 11 days once (fluids only). I was able to run about 4 miles/day. Didn't feel bad but I don't think I would have gone much more than that. Did it for faith-based reasons and not for weight loss, etc. I definitely wouldn't have tried serious mileage while doing it.
The Ethiopians have ... they're all (almost) Ethiopian orthodox (christian) and they're fasting all the time (well, not fluid only ... but something like 2 meals a day (lunch + dinner) and no animal products like milk, beef, eggs etc).
i did several water-fasts, lasting between 1 and 3 days.
Its not that difficult to do some easy running(a lot of experts even recommend physicial activity during a fast) but never go hard.During a fast your body is under stress, is trying to get rid of a lot of stress in the body, even 3-5 days after a fast you still feel a bit tired but its definietly worth doing it.I suffered from allergies and asthma and both were gone after about 4-5 short term fasts, i also can concentrate better and have more energy now.
Its all in the gut, the gut is connected very strong connected to other parts in the body, especially the brain, a lot of doctors say that the gut is like a 2nd brain because of the way it is build and connected to the 1st brain.I sufferede from depression, anxiety and insomnia my whole youth and compensated all this by making "philosophical excuses" like all depressive people do "everythings so bad, all the people are so stupid and bad, my parents..., my teachers...,the world....they are all responsible for how i feel" till i started to find an alternativ way to get rid of my allergies/asthma as the medication was making me only more sick.
Through several experiments i found out that my mood/attitude is linked closely to my allergies and studied more and more.I started to "shower" my guts by drinkin a lot of water on an empty stomach every morning, thats an old indian recipe against several illnesses and i got totally depressed for ~3h after drinking the water and then boom had a relieve, not only in my lungs but also in my head.I found out that lots of illnesses are nothing but a result of an overload in the gut and the best way to help yourself is to fast and drink a lot water when fasting.
My first water-fast lasted only about 30h but it was a complete horror, actually the 30h fast wasnt that hard, i was just tired and hungry at the end but the real hard part were the days after. The first thing i ate was a pizza followed by 2 cheeseburgers, guess what happend...i fell into heavy depression for the next 24h but i felt better day after day and after about 5 days i felt not only normal again but also kind of "relieved".I did several fasts after that and took more care about what i ate the days after breaking the fast and my asthma/allergies complete disappeared. My view of a lot of things in life has changed through this relief, all this human weaknesses...agression,violence...i guess its 90% just an overload inside the body and only to 10% a result of the experiences people make.I can only recommend fasting, especially if its not longer as some days(you wont get any mineral/vitamin problems in such a short time) but better consult an expert first.
Dude, you need to visit http://www.quackwatch.com
i tried the nonquacky way, took all the nonquacky medication but was nothing but superquacky.
What are you a wrestler or a runner ???? Sounds like the begining of a problem. Just eat and run.....
If you are planning on fasting during some running:
1) drink juice. Complete water fast will drain your glycogen supplies very quickly and leave you unable to recover from the workouts....which leads me to point 2.
2) try and start the fast between 12 and 18 hours after your last hard workout in order to allow sufficient recovery and muscular restoration. Also, make sure you fast during easy days, as was said above. I read a study a while back that said intense activity during fasting could actually lead to potentially hazardous levels of by-products in the bloodstream, particularly if you don't consume enough liquids.
3) Consider taking a day or two off during the fast. If nothing else, run at 5pm on day 1, eat dinner then fast all of day 2 without running. On day 3 resume diet. That's a solid 36 hour period 16-20 hours of which are spent sleeping. By that second day you'll start to feel bad if you continue to stress your body too much.
