Background: I am the top runner at a not very talented school (I'm at a 17:05, next fastest at an 18:50) in a competitive league. I really think that I need to run more miles during the season.
I've talked to my coach about adjusting the training plan so I can run more easy miles, as we have one speed workout and two races a week, replacing the speed workout with a longer run and tempoing the league meets. I've asked him about adjusting the training in the past and he doesn't seem very receptive to me even running doubles for more than 4 weeks during the season. How should I go about this? Should I even do it?
