Admittedly it is fairly close but I am going to have to give the nod to Wheating. Wheating has the faster 1500m and 800m. Jakob is faster at 5000m. Jakob’s European titles are a bit of a joke. I also believe that Jakob will never break 3:31 as he is training so hard now. Wheating gets the vote here.

Yeah, and with the two Olympic teams, I'd have to agree. Hard to win on "longevity" when you're 17. But I do think Ingebrigtsen at this moment is better than Wheating ever was.
I think the 2010 Wheating has the edge on the 2018 Jakob at 800m and 1500m. At 2000m it is a good match but above 2000m it appears Jakob has the advantage.

Wheating is possibly the more talented of the two. Jakob will probably never match some of Wheating's best times.

Jakob has run 3:31 at age 17. Wheating ran 3:30 around age 22 (sorry that could be wrong. Jakob has run incredible times from 1500-5k, including the steeple. He's already shown himself to be a higher class and those times will come.

I agree, but I also think it's important to recognize Ingebrigtsen has achieved a lot more against tougher competition. Wheating is well-known as a two time Olympian, but he never made it to the finals of any Global championship. While it's always subjective what makes a better career, Ingebrigtsen has a better balance of medals and times in 2018 than Wheating's 2010.
Nobody from USA will EVER beat Jakob as long as he gonna be running. Jakob will also hit sub 13:00 before Chelimo.

European 1500m is tougher than USA 1500m. Jakob closed in 53.64 for 3:38 and Centro closed in 53.59 for 3:43.
Also European 5000m is tougher than USA 5000m. Jakob closed in 54.09 for 13:17 while Chelimo closed in 55.78 for 13:29.

Speaking of Andrew Wheating, I saw him on a poster in a sports store while vacationing in Bangkok today. I was shocked by that. Haven't seen Jakob on any posters yet!
I will call it a tie at this moment. I believe that Ingebrigtsen will accomplish more. No matter how much training he has done, he is male and only 17 so he will improve.
I never said they would. Over 1500, you're probably right. His strategic skill alone will carry him a long way. Over 5000, however, Chelimo is a class above the trio of brothers. He's 15(16??) seconds ahead of Jakob and has way better medals/performances. I would say Chelimo has the advantage 2000m and above. This reminds me, we need to start a thread about when Chelimo will move up to 10000 and how close he'll get to the AR.
And....duh? European Champs are a major championship for all competitors involved. For Chelimo, Jager, Centro, and many of the winners, it's more about the title in a non championship year. There's very little on the line besides NACACs and the Continental Cup. Why would you compare the two?

The biggest thing going against it is one was in June in an off year with nothing on the line and on is in August. Get backto me when Jakob beats Chelimo in a 5k. He already owns Centro in the 1500.

I think 2010 is for Wheating what 2018 is for Ingebritsen -- the year when they showed they could run fast. Before 2010, Wheating had run some great races, but he hadn't run any fast races. Sadly, he never ran any fast races after 2010. After the 3:30, his next fastest 1500 times are 3:34, 3:35 and 3:36. The same is true for the mile -- his PB is a 3:51 in 2010, then it's 3:55 and 3:56. It's even true for the 800, although the drop-off is not quite as striking.
Let's hope Ingebritsen proves to sturdier than Wheating, who got hurt and then never fully recovered.

He's won double gold in Euro champs as a 17-year old.
All he has to do is qualify for the Olympics and his career is solidly better than Wheating's.
by the way, you "believing" Ingebrigsten will never get faster in the 1500m is solely your opinion. That's really all it is. Objectively, you have no idea what you are talking about. No one on this board really does as it relates to hisi training. We have no idea about the nuance and long-term training plan is for him.

Jakob will surely be better, and this is a troll post, but at this point in Jakob's career he hasn't surpassed Andy yet (understandable, he's freaking 17).
3 individual NCAA titles, 2 Olympic teams, and 1:44.56/3:30.90 PRs. Jakob's two Euro titles and 3:31/13:17 don't eclipse that yet, but Jakob will after next year.
