My kid wants one for his birthday. I was thinking about donating it to the local university if they gave me access for him.
Can you also race go karts on that surface ?

I know that to just resurface the average high school track it costs around 30k. So start from scratch and with mondo its gonna be 50k bare minimum and I would think it would be more in the range of 70-80 thousand.
Probably 500g, and no, I would not recommend racing go-carts on the surface.
Try a search on this site. I recall several discussions about building one and the cost involved.
No karts!
Good Luck!
Are you serious? Would you consider moving to my neighborhood?
All you need to know about Mondo:

The typical track with jump areas is about 6,000 square meters and Mondo probably will cost you at least $120.00/sq.m.
So let's say more like a minimum of $700,000.00...are you sure you want Mondo? Will Rekortan work?
email me if you need more information.
If it's a over an existing facility, you'll mainly be paying for the cost of the rubber and installation, in which case, $120/sq.m. is a pretty accurate cost.
If you're building from the ground up, you'll have a lot of other costs involved, and it'll be upwards of a $1.3 with asphalt work and all.
At over a million dollars, why would you want to risk the integrity of the surface by racing carts on them?
What you need is one of those Field Turf things with the plastic grass and rubber eraser shavings. Then your boy can run barefoot like the Kenyans and be an Olympian in six to eight years. The downside is that you'll need to build a winding asphalt path around the outside for the karts. But you could donate the field to the university football team, and in the offseason operate a go-kart concession there. You'll also need to put a dome over it. Hey, indoor driving range in the winter! We're talking cash cow! Think outside the box, man!
I was in charge of fundraising & worked with the engineering crew to design & build a Mondo facility from scratch in 1986. The cost was just shy of $800,000 including basic equipment such as throwing cages, hurdles, pits, steeple barriers, etc. I'm sure it would be much higher in 2005.
we got a quote of $900,000 last year at our school. we passed.
That's what I was thinking back in 1993 they were going for $500,000....so 12 years ago...figure inflation and you got

That's about 5.8% inflation per year.
