My sneakers smell like a rotting corpse after just a few months of wear. Why do they smell so bad? Can I soak them in diluted bleach overnight and dry them in the sun?

I get really bad shoe smell too, especially with cleats cause they are leather and don't breathe. I don't know the science but I would guess it is sweat from your feet that stays damp in them. Best thing you can do is leave them with the laces loose and tongue spread from the shoe in a space where they will get lots of air. Also avoid dirty socks or bare feet in them.
white or apple vinegar soak might work better? I imagine bleach might be tough on shoes i dunno
google it, i soak my feet 15 mins a week and it did wonders for smelly feet

Coz ur feet smell bad?
Sprinkle in some odor eaters powder when you take them off. It’s not magic but it helps.
Concentrated sulfuric acid should solve the problem for you
Put newspapers in your shoes when they're drying, they'll absorb the moisture and the odors.

Have you done it? I'm too lazy for soaks, and buying powders, but I might try this cause I always leave my cleats in the car and they stink it up.
stop jerking off in the shower then putting on your shoes with no socks
Wait.....people still say "sneakers"?

You just did.
Absorbent cotton or wool socks would keep the smell inside. Bleach fades the colors.
They should make socks knitted from Shamwow absorbent matirial.
To answer your question. It’s billions of bacteria growing in your shoes.
