why not do the first 10 at 10k pace and the last 10 at 5k pace with 1 min jog rest
Or even better:
4 x 5 x 400m
first set@ 10k pace
second set @ 5k pace
third set @ 3k pace
last set @ mile pace
rest:
first set 100m jog
400m jog beteen set
second set 200m jog
800m jog between set
third set 200m jog
1600m jog between set
last set 400m jog
This way of handle the workout 20 x 400m can be good, but only when the purpose is another
than improve the runners ability to keep up an even 5K race pace for the entire distance.
Running the workout progressive faster , and then preferable in sets, should only be used when preparing for a very important race 5K/10K where it can be expected for a need of a very fast finish.
The great Joshua Cheptegei , who I sometimes chat with, told me he use to run 20 x 400m that way when preparing for the championships. Then he do them like this : 5 sets of 4 x 400m , 3 min jog between sets, 1 min walk between reps.
First set at 65 sec, second set at 64 sec, third set 60-61 sec and last set 58-59 sec . He is very fast in a race finish.
