Anyone do serious running in them looking at the RN 2017 and 2018 models.
Don't really hear much about the frees anymore and rare to see a super flexible neutral shoe it seems these days.

When the Nike Free came out, there was some "fine print" with it recommending that people use this as a supplemental pair of shoes to run a fraction of their miles in (~10%) to strengthen the joints/ligaments/tendons/muscles in the foot similar to running barefoot. Most of your miles would be run in regular training shoes, and you would occasionally wear the Frees. There's some merit to this idea, but lots of people bought minimalist shoes and wore them too much right away and got injured. If you are light weight, have good mechanics, are a fore foot striker, and/or run on soft surfaces (dirt, grass) then you are less likely to get injured wearing them.
We've got 2 reviews of the Free RN Distance:

There are so many different version of the free it's hard to keep track of which makes me think many of them are just fashion shoes but clearly some are meant for runners.
If anyone has advice as which shoes we should combine in our database post on here or let me know via email
My understanding is the Flex/Distance are for fashion and the RN 201X were more for running
