I I am currently 16 (for a few more days) and I am entering my junior year of high school. I have never run competitively, but I have begun to entertain the thought. I played football through 8th grade, but since then I haven’t really exercised much at all. I am 5’ 8/9” and I weigh 148. I’ve started exercising (mainly elliptical and treadmill) again the last few months. I’d like to join the track team when the season starts in January, but my times are bad. Now, it is worth mentioning that I literally have not done any speed training or speed endurance up to this point, but right now my 1600 time is 7:58 (lol ik), my 400 time is 1:17, my 200 time is 36 flat (was a bit winded from running repeats before hand) and my 100 time is 15.3. I know the times suck, but to put in perspective, two months ago my mile time was 10:00. So, I think that 7:58 will continue to go go down, but honestly I’ve always been one with more power and bursts of speed and my thigh size would definitely help me as a sprinter. To all of you runners out there, do you thinkI could actually be ready for indoor track season in five months? Any training advice? Thanks!
