You people keep refering to the 'mile'. Nobody outside of the US uses your f***ing imperial distance system.

That's cool how you used the 'f' word there. Really adds a lot to your message and to the thread itself. Good job!!

It's not our "imperial distance system" you moron. The word imperial should have been your first clue. The system you are referring to originated in Britain.

"Roger Bannister, first man to break four minutes in the the sixteen hundred and nine point three meter run". Has a nice ring to it...
I nominate Marita Koch's WR 400. Something like 47.6?
I can't believe her penis didn't get in the way ....

wow...just wow...
the 1500 meters.
i understand 1000 or 5k or 10k, why that distance? other than it is close to a mile and moved to something that divides into a factor of 500.
drop it from the records.
He's talking about obvious tainted records. The women's 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, 5000 and 10000 meters are all pretty obvious IMO. I'm pretty sure I could name a few on the men's side (outside of Tim Montgomery), but since they haven't were smart enough to never get caught I'll leave the public speculation to others.

Obviously Junxia Wang's 10,000 record.
Paula Radcliffe, an amazing talent, on the top 10 lists from the 3000 to the marathon, and world record holder by 3 MINUTES, 22 SECONDS in the marathon can't come within 30 seconds of the 10,000 meter record?
Bullshit.
Junxia Wang = 29:31.78
Paula Radcliffe = 30:01.09
No way that's legit.
Actually, since the 5000m record by Bo Jiang was surpassed I'll remove the women's 5000 from the list. So we have:
100 meters: Flo Jo
200 meters: Flo Jo
400 meters: Marita Koch
800 meters: Jarmila Kratochvílová
1500 meters: Qu Yunxia
3000 meters: Wang Junxia
10000 meters: Wang Junxia

Well, she ran under 48s several times, but she was never caught using drugs. I would call the most bogus the 3000m and 10 000m women record- hell they don't even have the whole race on the tape- only finishing straight- to prove that they really ran 7.5 and 25 laps (on legit 400m track).
And how about that 1500m WR? Twice bettered in prelims... BS.
To inform the ignorant poster: 1500m evolved in the 19th century in France, because their stadiums were 500m long in the perimeter. So it was 3 simple laps to the 1500m, close enough to the mile.
The "Tredmill Marathon" WR is pretty funny, the guy that set it is sponsored by Nike and Powerbar
Czech out this page...http://www.omundodacorrida.com/Recordesmundiais.htm
That's the measurement we'll use when we nuke your lame asses off the face of the earth.
Major Tom: How close should we put this nuke anyway?
Ground Control: Put it within a country mile, that'll suffice.
Daniel Komen's 3000 WR of 7:20. Come-on guys, this guy was on some serious EPO back in 97/98
Funny. I seem to remember that all the roads in England were measured in miles. Along with distances to locations along the Motorway.
The world record for the men's marathon is the most bogus by a long shot. I should know because I set it myself: 15 minutes, 44.51 seconds (hand-timed). I did this in a Volkswagen Jetta and was drunk as hell at the time, meaning I was both mechanically aided and "doped" at the time. The course wasn't certified by the odometer read 26.2 miles, with the tenths reading just a hair past the "2." I doubt the IAAF will ratify this mark, but I'm okay with that.
Indoor female 1500m.
What's the story with the WR being bettered in the prelims? I've never heard this.
What's disturbing is that since every women's WR is so obviously bogus, I wonder if all of the men's records are too? Something to think about.
Records I would bet my life on being bogus: womens 800, womens 1500, womens 10000m, mens 100m, mens shot. I honestly believe than the records most likely to be clean are the men's distances. I don't know enough about the womens 400m to say that it was illegal, but it almost assuredly was. FloJo I would bet was on stuff, but I would't bet my life on it. Those other WR's that I mentioned are basically assured of being bogus.
