Paul Chelimo will also likely run a faster marathon than Galen if he eventually moves up. While some may argue the point, it seems obvious that Paul Chelimo will go down in history as a better runner than Galen Rupp. Galen. Galen never came close to winning a Diamond League event and Paul has already done so.

When did I write that Chelimo’s Diamond League victory was dispositive in my appraisal? You can see that Chelimo has more talent than Galen, and also more tenacity. Chelimo is clearly better at 5000m than Galen, and it is only a matter of time before he ascends to a level that Galen could only dream of, even with the aid of Alberto’s shady operation.
Was Galen's 10000m AR in Eugene not a DL win?
Chelimo is a huge talent and well on his way to being one of the greatest American distance runners of all time with his current medal count. I'd love to see him snag gold at WC next year. That being said, Galen's range is insane. 3:50 mile, 7:30, 12:58, 26:44, 59.47, 2:06... silver and bronze oly medals, marathon major win.... until chelimo does that Galen is still the master.

Paul will never have 3:50 mile speed but he might be able to take a crack at his 3k (7:30i) and 2 mile (8:06i) indoor records, maybe.
Paul might have 10k potential, I can see him mixing it up in a championship 10k and maybe getting a couple medals. But Galen has gotten 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 5th (off marathon training) at global 10k's so it's not like he hasn't been dominant amongst American's.
Paul will never be a better half marathoner or marathoner than Galen, period.
why are you dissing on galen dude? what personal vendetta do you have against him you judgmental butthole? you could just say "I think Paul Chelimo is a good runner" and list your reasons for liking him but you have to turn this into a galen vs paul.
This is a strange argument. Chelimo is better at 5,000 but Rupp is better at every other event besides maybe 3000 and much stronger tactically. Chelimo also benefits from having no Farah, though Edris’ insane kick (even with little fitness this season) and Kejelcha’s ridiculous talent are gonna a global gold hard to get.

You say that PC will never have 3:50 mile speed but PC has a better finish than Galen ever had so it is not clear to me that PC cannot run a 3:50 mile. PC will end up more decorated and a greater runner than Galen. This seems obvious....to the intelligent.

Rupp's 5000 PR is not indicative of his potential at that event. Based on his 26:44, and at right race at the right time, he could have run 12:50. And his 10,000 included, if I remember correctly, a last 800 of 1:56 which indicates he could have been under 26:40 if he had evened his pace.
Galen had many bites at the apple and he broke 13 once. Galen was not a 12:50 guy. Facts are stubborn.
Solinsky ran 1:56 to close 26:59. Galen ran 1:57 to close his 26:44.

According to Jack Daniels his 10,000 time is equivalent to 12:49. Are you saying that Rupp couldn't have beaten Ritz decisively at 5000?
