My grandfather left me his entire coin collection which includes ( 167) 1 oz gold coins. I also have hundreds of silver coins too. My mother says just hang onto them, and pass them on to my kids if I ever have any. I'm really not into coin collecting, and sometimes just wish I could sell them. I just do not want my parents to be upset with me. What would you do?
This is hilarious, yesterday I sold one coin. I inherited a lot coins from my mom.
I had a 1847 gold coin with a prestigious minkmark. Got $3500 for it.
Go to a coin dealer, not a pawn shop.
Do research on the internet about the coin. Know it's value, any minkmarks, if the coin was circulated or uncirculated. Also, know how many was produced.
Pretend that you know what you are talking about. The gold itself was only worth $250. But I knew the value and got what the coin is worth. Other factors involved: hopefully the coins are in a protective case and hopefully they were cleaned properly. If not, the dealer will deduct money.
I am keeping some of them for kids and grandchildren. But, every once in a while I will sell one. If anyone looks at the collection, they will never know 5-10 are missing.
