His first attempt at 2.46m at the Gyulai Memorial in Székesfehérvár, Hungary on Monday was very close. The bad news is he ended up injuring himself. See it for yourself.

But now he has to go around telling everyone that he got injured in Székesfehérvár. That's gonna be rough.
When is he going to take on the 800?

He used to be an 800 runner.

I think he injured his Székesfehérvár.
That says 8,034 likes, not 8 feet and 3/4 inches.
It looks like his loose fitting shirt hit the bar first. Of all the T&F athletes who should be wearing tight fitting gear you would think high jumpers would be the ones to do it.

Ryan Fritz was a 1:55 guy in high school.

Not so fast, feller. A HJ'er has to stretch and contort. A too-tight shirt would restrict that.
Barshim is the smoothest HJ'er since Dwight Stones. That includes his approach to the bar = very fluid and even.
If they were ever to reduce the number of events in T&F, do you think they would eliminate HJ?

I was told you can not use profanity here when I tried to post about #8 from england . I will now try to squeeze this into my vocabulary.
High jump has been a good event to watch on both the mens and women's side the last few years.
Amazing attempt! I'm a Barshim fan and hope he gets the record. He's been very close a couple times now. His jumps are so much better with the full-stride, longer, fast straightaway!

Sotomayor's record of 8' 1/4" is safe for now. He remains the only man to clear 8ft.
