Mary Cain on Pappas/Merber podcast, says she plans on racing in next month or two

Under - she wouldn't come back without knowing she's in some sort of form, and that talent level doesn't just disappear.

hate to see that she falls in the Julia Stamps category, though her star shown far brighter. Not likely to ever run quick again, but I'd love to see her do it. The best female distance talent we've had as a teenager.

I am really hoping that she gets back to an elite level. I am going with 4:10 and 2:06 this year though.

Except for teenage girls, whose bodies can change a lot as they go through puberty.

I you are right, and she finally gets a chance to deliver on the promise she had at her peak.

Diamond League ends in August. What other meets could she consider?

She's not going to get into a Diamond League meet (nor would she want to) without some stellar results. She can run in a local meet anytime up until late August probably before they're shut down for the season.

There's a ton of non-DL meets in Europe that'd probably have her throughout the summer. She could get in some quicker races and try to put solid times down to build off this year.

What did she think of the book, though?

4:10&4:30 were just about top 20 US times at season end 2017

It’s amazing how many posters here think that the DL is the beginning and end of competitive track meets in the summer. There is solidly competitive track happening all summer in Germany, Ireland, Norway, Hungary, Croatia, Sweden, England, etc that would be happy to have someone like Cain and give her the chance to try to hang on in a mid-4:0X race. She could easily get 5+ results in this summer and then have all fall to build towards a full indoor season.

They discuss an old children's book in her episode, but of interest Cain did say that she got caught in a long injury cycle, but has been in training for a few months and plans to start racing again in the next "month or two".

Apparently her coach decided it wasn't worth it to try to rush back and get in a time standard for this year's USAs. It actually seemed like they were recording this during USAs a couple weeks ago, so hopefully this month if its on the early end?

Obviously meets other than DL remain, I was suggesting that there is nothing else in the USA that remains. There are probably a bunch of small meets leading up to Euro's, but the timetable that was suggested a couple of months from July. Will there be much going on in September on the track?

Definitely could see her doing a cross country race in the fall.
