Nobody talks to me.
"You are too skinny."
Them: "I saw you running."
Me: "It was probably someone else."
I should do more "cardio".

How would they know im a runner when I call?
"I hear you jog a lot"
"what's the longest marathon you've run"
"yeah I used to run too, my mile time was (insert unreasonable time that would shatter the current world record)"
“I do lots of running through Crossfit” - said by a Crossfitter who maybe runs 3 miles a week (and does it with the silly Crossfit POSE method)
"How long was that marathon you ran?"
How are your knees??
Me: Ummm, they're fine.
something to the extent of 'I can't run anymore.'
What i hear is, "I ran into issues like every other runner but haven't been able to work through them like an ongoing runner can and has.' If i press the conversation, i find out if they do any sports instead, and what was their issue.
In all humility, I have had quite a few very good conversations with people along these lines. Many times they are embarking on a walking program and we talk about schedule, setting aside time, finding motivation, Or maybe we talk about how to drop the weight. Or maybe we talk their messed up ankles and feet, which i have had my share of. Anyway, if it starts down the path of someone working on their health, i find we usually have something in common, and if they are interested, we can talk.
I generally prefer to leave my pursuits out of the conversation unless to illustrate how to balance time or something like that.

"I can barely run a mile!"
“I could that gun to the head but I’m not going to because I’d get bored halfway through”
True story.
“How many miles was your marathon?”
“I don’t want to go that far in my car!”

it kills me to talk to non-runners after a marathon. All i want to say is my time. And they never ask. I keep waiting.... and they never ask.
"I'd never have thought you were a runner." Maybe because I seem very much like an "indoor" person? I'm not chunky!
