Ok I'll admit 100 miles in the mountains will be tough. I was talking about running 100 miles on a relatively flat course, maybe some hills, or like a track. I'm sure I could someday run under 13 hours on the flat in ideal conditions when I'm at my peak if I decide to do ultras. I was never insulting anyone or degrading anyone.
Ya know, I saw a post earlier on this thread I believe but was too annoyed to go back and quote, but something along the lines of "ultra runners are so sensitive because they're trying to defend how hard their endeavor is, you don't see people defending how hard breaking a 4 minute mile is.." OK, for one..who in their right mind would ever say breaking 4 is easy? I don't care how far we develop as athletes, that will forever be a coveted feat, attainable for sure, but absolutely at the top of the food chain in terms of speed and cardiovascular strength. I also can't rationalize how there is so much blatant disregard for the unique challenges of an ultra runner, particularly 100 miles. You all look childish and even if you're sadly trolling because your life is that jaded, you're poking fun at a sport and distance that takes a unique beast physically and mentally to even sign up for. I can bet without ever meeting some of you clowns that all the hate is coming from sub, sub elite runners who will never make it to the big show and deep down know, they just don't have it. That's your dilemma to figure out bro. I don't personally care to run a 100 anytime soon, or possibly ever, but I admire the runners that do and have a great deal of respect for their approach as I try to incorporate some of their tactics into my own training for the marathon and 50k distance. We're all in this together, running for whatever sparks our passion, either respect that or take the clown show elsewhere.
