Instagram runners are the absolute worst

Sure, but you don't have to follow any of them.

I'll admit, a lot of them are annoying but companies are more willing to give them free gear sponsorships etc... than an elite runner. Why? They're more relatable to all the other bored housewives and and they cast a wider net with their "coupon codes" "flat tummy teas" inspirational quotes and lululemmon attire.

Learn to cut and paste. This thread is useless without PRs and PICS!!!!!

Yeah, they are pretty repetitive, but people must like them because they get all sorts of sponsorships.

I’ve unfollowed some of them - I don’t need to know about every run you take - but I enjoy the ones that mainly share race results/pics.

The pros have to do it as part of their contracts or at least as a way to get or maintain a contract. They don't have a league that is marketing them, they are their own PR department. Get more followers, get more $$. I give them a break if they're posting a lot.

Now the hobbist that is always social media w horing... that's a different animal.

Add in those who write lenthly paragraphs with emojis every 2-3 words. Craig Morgan is the most annoying example of this. Patrick Cutter annoying as well. Can't imagine trying to hold a serious conversation with these people in real life.

I never really read the garbage that is written by these runners, but I'm endlessly annoyed by the pictures that these runners pose for where they're "running", except it's clearly an overly exaggerated stride or a pace that I know they couldn't hold for more than 20 seconds. It's cringy and I'm not sure how people don't see through it.

And no, I don't follow these people. They show up in the search or suggested tab of the app. It's hard to get rid of these idiots.

What if they are covering 200m in that 20 seconds?

Gotta filter your standards. I used to follow a bunch of them when I first joined instagram, but now i've started purging them. If they're posting runs at 9 min/mile pace, I don't have reason to follow them. I find it more relateable when I see runners posting training times and results comparable to my own. And truth be told, many of the runners I began following for no other reason than they were attractive.

I too enjoy actively seeking out and following people and then complaining about their content.

I definitely don't follow any of them. They show up on the explore/search page and sometimes I peruse out of sheer curiosity and amazement, kind of like rubbernecking at a car wreck.

It's amazing how self-absorbed and narcissistic people are, and how social media brings it out in excess and also normalizes it. Go back 15 years and imagine someone taking a selfie photo every day and, lets say, emailing it to everyone they knew. That behavior would have been bizarre and narcissistic to the next level. Now you get new followers and 1000s of "likes"
