Running basically made me an exercise addict. I had bad series of stress fracture and eventually just couldn't run so I started putting the same amount of time into weight lifting. It was likely too much. Long story short - I put on a bunch of weight, no fat, and for me it was slow so I didn't really notice how much bigger I was getting. So, today I was with my family and took my shirt off and they all called me out. Started comparing me to Hank Azaria and Carrot Top - as examples of guys for who it's weird/awkward that they are ripped when they take their shirts off. It really was awkward and I felt self conscious and ridiculous but I wasn't really aiming to get overly big, it just sort of happened.
I'm now injury free and have been running again so I'm going to move away from all the weight lifting, but why is it embarrassing for a guy to be too big? Is it a weird vanity thing? Who is a good example of the most muscle a guy should have without being ridiculous?
