x-c runners/teams who could fight

Have you ever heard of Mike Reilly?

Steve Jones (Welsh 2:07 'thoner), Clint Wells (black belt), Shannon Butler, Dale Vinski (ex-Cal teammate and former LA gang-banger). What's the point?

I was a roommate of this guy at North Idaho College who came from Sandpoint, ID. Angus Travers. Nice guy, but we would be at the bar and a guy would always want to fight him. NIC was in Sandpoint's rival town and I think Angus stood out well with his red hair.

I remember having a beer and this big guy just walks over and says, "I don't like your face." Angus says, "let's go outside". As soon as the guy sets up, Angus goes from easy going to ultimate fighter and slams the guy with a right punch that takes him down. Angus was sub 2:00, 4:05 1500 but also 6'2, 180 pounds and the biggest, fastest fists you have ever seen. The guy gets up and Angus punches the guys four times without the guy laying a finger on him. Unbelievably fast! The guy's buddy rushes in to save the guy and Angus slams this dude into a car!

We were in utter awe! I had never known a cross country guy who could fight! It was truly beautiful to see these ball jocks get hammered by a runner!

Angus was also the wrestling buddy to Steve Kluver in high school. Steve was a college national champion after high school and toughened Angus for four years...

Let's just say, we treated him well!

I know that dude and he did not come up so big when he cheap-shotted me while palying football after nationals.

In fact, he ended up flat on his back being read the riot act.

If I can do it hundreds of X/C guys could.

My boro boyz and I always get a laugh when we recount that story.

How about Letsrun bad-boy and UTEP coach, David Welsh? DQ'ed from his last NCAA meet for punching someone in the 10k who was clipping his heels, I think. From the same team I think, on the opposite end of the spectrum - Teddy Mitchell, biggest wuss in WCAP. How many times has he gotten his ass kicked?

Sometimes I think about the kids in middle school who liked to start fights, the ones who enjoyed it, to the ones who were so stupid that they could only respond with violence instead of wit. I wonder how they react to actual adult situations like

Boss:alright Jason it’s time for your quarterly review.

Jason: are you talking sh!t?

Boss: what?

Jason:step up and do something about it b!tch

Boss: I just want to talk about your performa-

Jason: sound like fighting words to me

Or do they grow up and finally recognize how stupid they are?
