Im a freshman and this was my first year of track. What could my 400m PR be Senior Year?
Current PR's:
200m - 25.5s
400m - 56s
500m - 1:15s
800m - 2:26s

Most kids improve at a flat rate of 5 seconds per season, so these early times are really important.
With your times
Freshman: 56
Sophomore: 51
Junior: 46
Senior: 41
Could prob get a decent scholarship running with times like that.
48-58s depending on genetics, training, diet, lifestyle and just about every other variable you can think of. You probably have just as much chance of running 48 seconds then any other kid in the range of 50 - 65s your age.
Um are you sure cause the WR is 43.03s???
Coach. I have to disagree.
I really feel like a “flat” improvement is unrealistic. It is more likely that he will improve significantly at first and then more slightly.
I would predict:
9th 56
10th 48.5
11th 45.3
12th 41.0
Work hard kid. Build grit. You could be great!
I've seen a lot of young runners in my day. If your times are accurate (official auto timed on a track) and you stick with the sport (continuing to train at a high level) then yes, I am certain. The formula does not fail often (injuries aside).
ps what are your grades like?
Also I might switch between the 400m and 800m any tips for dropping my time for the 800 cause I know based of my 400m PB i should be able to run much closer to 2 flat
Thanks everyone this is really motivating ,me to try even harder on every workout :)
I'm the one who's not fast! You are so so so fast! My 800 time is 2:35
I'm a long-distance runner tho

Slight addendum. Once you enter into college, the rate of improvement decreases to a more modest 2 seconds per season. If you stick in college for 6 years, like most people, by the end he should have a 29.
Could prob get a decent pro contract with a time like that.
Probably a minute or two
lmao i can tell yall are trolling
4.35 average GPA is a pretty good start. Make sure to maintain AT LEAST that level of academic rigor as your grades will become more important than you might realize when talking to college coached. It is not uncommon for me to have to turn down fantastic athletes because they do not meet our 3.8 (un-weighted) GPA requirement for incoming athletes.
As for underpronated feet it depends quite a bit how extreme the condition but continuing to run in poorly fitting shoes will only exacerbate the issue. I recommend going to a store like RoadRunner and asking the professionals there what they think. They have this great treadmill machine that analyzes your stride as you run and gives a recommendation.
As for running the 800 it is a little bit hard to predict results without seeing times from both one distance up and one distance down. I would need to know your mile time in order to accurately predict your 800m time (you might simply be a speed based runner), but nearly all kids who run 56s for the 400m are in shape to run 1:56 given the proper race conditions.
Thanks I will check out a RoadRunner, my mile time is 5:20. But I always have struggled with the 800m thats why I was wondering.
yeah its a great store, especially for new runners. There prices are a bit steep tho so depending on your financial situation you might want to buy shoes online after you figure out what you like/need.
Your mile time is pretty quick and so is your 400m time. With those two marks it is surprising that your 800m is not faster. I would expect someone with those times to be running much closer to 2:00 flat. Have you had good racing conditions for the 800? Perhaps you don't have proper competition/shoes/etc.
Dude. The 800m is tricky. Lots of kids get coached for the mile or the 400m, but don’t realize they might be best at the 800m.
I agree with the coach that you might do really well.
You guys make it sound like the 800 is easy or something. I loved running the 800 and I think a 5:20 isn’t even close. Maybe a 2:15.
Seriously kid. You could run mid 40’s in the 400m if you just commit to speed, lifting, plyometrics etc. it’s a hard road, but one of you high schoolers might be the next Michael Norman.
With all due respect Mr "Regulur" I think I know what I am talking about a great deal more than you do. In the competitive high school circuit the 800m is a relatively easy event. Most kids simply lack either the speed or the stamina at that age. I think that you'll be hard pressed to find another FRESHMAN 56s 400m runner who has the aerobic strength of a 5:20 mile.
There is no question that a mid 40s 400m is within range, but what about the possibility of a sub 1:50 800m by his junior year?
With the exception of athletes who are built with a particular hue; it is usually bad advice for those gifted with excellent aerobic strength (noted in his 5:20 FRESHMAN mile) to begin specializing in speed work so early.
I recommend packing on a lot of miles this summer and running cross county in the fall.
Oh okay I want to try and slowly ramp it up to 50mpw.
I always struggle with how to actually run the race, I always hit a slump during 400m-600m stretch .
