I would say that 300 is low. Here are some factors that change the life span of your shoes... I'm sure other people on this board can add some more (or disagree with me).
Surface that you're running
The way you plant your foot. If you wear your soles away at an angle so that your shoe leans severely to the left or right it is time to change shoes because it lends to improper joint alignment each time you land.
Your weight.
The shoe itself.
If you also use them as walking shoes.
If you don't take care of them (ie putting them in the dryer)
Lifting heavy weights in them wears out the cushioning quicker.
Anyone think of anything else? Are you sure you need orthotics? I only ask because I think that some people who need orthotics for dress shoes don't need them for their running shoes assuming that they buy the proper style shoe. Good luck.
