Hey LR, I’m ignoring every instinct and actually turning to you for advice.
I was a modestly successful D3 runner in college (15-low 5k, 31-mid 10k), but got injured right in the midst of my senior season. I was PRing, working out well, everything was going great... until it wasn’t. Anyways, I ended my [D3] collegiate career in the middle of my last xc season.
I floated around for a year, doing maybe 25 miles a week just to stay in shape, then I joined the military. Since then, I’d guess my mileage has been in the single digits. I’m still a sub—12 runner for the two mile run portion of our physical fitness test, but I really miss running seriously.
I want to get back into it, but I really don’t even know where to begin. I’m 30 lbs heavier (still fit at 5’9”, 150lbs), have no base or speed whatsoever. I decided I want to try to run a mile under 5:00 this summer, and was hoping for some advice how to structure a program around 35-40mpw for middle distance as I was a longer distance type in college. Any input from the LR community would be awesome.
Thanks guys
