This is pretty much the crux of why hobby joggers like you are disliked on this board. You clearly cannot understand that many of the posters on here are either current or former actual runners and posting garbage like this makes us despise you.

As one of the posters above said - insecurity. You put your 16:03 time believing, in an utter lack of self awareness, that it some way qualifies you. But the fact is for a lot of people that time is a joke and this (although you obviously won't be able to appreciate this) makes your type the absolute worst kind of hobby jogger.

Because this site is overrun by high school bullies.

The average poster here appears to be a U.S. suburban white male aged 15-25. American teenage boys are known to be mean, cliquey, and insecure. This creates a situation where the mean boy cliques cause there to be loners who feel left out and angry.

In many other countries, this kind of cliquish, mean bullying culture just doesn't happen to this extent. You will be surprised at how nice and normal teenage boys from other countries can be.

LetsRun is not the only site like this. Other forums overrun by this demographic including bodybuilding forums, college admissions forums, and gaming forums. Of course, they have toxic, bullying elitist atmospheres.

Most of the people on this site are latent homosexuals.

It's infantile.

I think it's natural to hate on newbies in any sport or activity. I'm sure the guy that's a scratch golfer makes fun of the guy that just bought his first set of clubs and is hacking up the course, etc.

For me the issue isn't people that are new to the sport, it's the people who try to act like they're elites when they really just aren't that good. The 20 minute 5k runners who wear every little thing they see pros wearing gets annoying.

16:03 isn't bad by any stretch of the imagination and the people that think it is probably got their PRs from a race that was short.

The board is what you make it. It's the internet. I find most of it entertaining. People geared up water with belts and compression socks to jog their 35 minute 5k is funny! An old fat guy like me huffing and puffing his way to age group glory is funny, too! Running is boring and 99.9% of us are doing this as a hobby. Lighten up. If letsrun pisses you off more than it makes you laugh, find a different message board.

9/10 for the imaginative and long-winded way of letting it be known that your PR is 16:03.

Isn't the elitism of hobby joggers the main reason why we continue to mock them? Yes, hobby joggers can be elitists. Anyone who is really uptight regarding their training, you know, the type who freaks out if they even sniff a scent of a donut in the 3 months before race day, or measures their electrolytes to the millimeter. That elitist and uptight attitude never stops being funny.

I'm technically a hobby jogger but I don't really take my training seriously, so I'm not offended by any slurs, in fact it's fun to partake in it.
