Hoey is going to be running in the men’s 800 at the Adidas Boost Boston Games tomorrow. He’s run 1:48 twice already this season but also ran a 1:47 this past indoor season. He’s racing with multiple 1:44 guys, including Robby Andrews, if the pace is right the winning time should be near 1:45... a perfect setup for Hoey.
I predict a 1:47.2 and maybe a top 4 finish.

I agree. He looks more a like 1500 type guy who's able to turn a decent 800. That said, I do think it's possible for him to run mid - low 1:46 while in HS.

Yea, a guy who has run 1:47.7 indoors def lacks the leg speed to run 1:46 outdoors with a tiny bit of improvement and fast comp.
Maybe he breaks it maybe he doesn’t, but your logic is ridiculous.

About his speed. I'm sure he can run at least 49 low right now, with the right peak he may be a 48 mid guy later in the season. I think that is JUST enough speed to slip into the 1:46s. That being said, even if things don't pan out and he only ends up running 1:48 again, I'm glad to see that he's challenging himself and not shying away from opportunities like this one. Chances like this one are the ones that turn good athletes to great ones.

First lap was a 52.37, second was a 56.00. Not a bad time, but not outstanding neither. The race seems like it went exactly as planned, with the winner running a 1:45.18. Hoey finished 8th overall and seems to be headed in the right direction seeing as he finished less than a second behind Robby Andrews, who ended up running a 1:47.78 with only a marginally faster 55.2 closing lap. With slightly better conditions and also a bit later into the season I think Hoey still has a great shot at improving on his PR of 1:47.6 and also challenging the HS record.

Yeah, that was a good call!
He should definitely take a shot at a fast mile while he is in this kind of shape. 1:48.4 is just .7 off his indoor time, though he had the guys around him to run a lot faster today. He may still get under 1:47 this year but he can get well under 4. He has now twice run close to the fastest Webb ran in hs, although he never really went after the hs record.
I wonder how many people in PA will remember him when all is said and done. Sure, he has the national indoor record but he's not done much with his school team, twice skipping states.

We'll definitely remember him. Sure it'd be nice to have him at states, but it's his choice.
