too much emphasis on the feel of the toe box and fit. Do you have fat feet or something? I've never once had opinions on the toebox of my shoes. Maybe you should go buy a pair of altras. Did you even run in the shoe?
Peg 34 in my rotation.
The review is emphasizing the difference in fit. My feet are normal, but no one wants a shallow toe box. The review also indicates a change in arch , overall feel, and comparison to other models.
Posters like you make this a great forum.
Reads like another example of a good shoe buggered up by radical changes, sometimes even small changes are enough to do that, it's been going on for years, be interesting to see how it pans out with this one.
I think that the emphasis with the toebox was that it's something to look out for if you're upgrading from the previous model. I've heard that these feel amazing.

The toebox obsession is a typical hobbyjogger thing that started after the "Born to run" madness. If you read shoe reviews from slower runners or post on something like "Running shoe geeks" on FB, one of the most common complaints is that the toebox is too narrow. That´s because we now haw a generation of hobbyjoggers who don´t know what a running shoe should feel like. It´s not a pair of bedroom slippers. This "wide toebox" stupidity was one of the worst things to come out of the minimalist movement.

Not to mention that the shoes look goofy- but then Hobby Joggers have a need to stand out.
Like the guy who showed up at a high school cross-country meet I was putting on.
He was on his long run for a marathon and his "coach" MADE his do it.
He was wearing one of those backpack things with TWO sippy cup hoses.
He had to show all the people how hard he worked. He bragged about his long run and left.
Of course, now it was just two runs of medium length and he didn't need any water at all!
But I digress, back to the Pegasus- I have a pair of 34's coming Monday!!!
Nice hijack to tell a completely unrelated story.
Well,,,, Great bedroom slipper comparison. What the reviewer is forgetting is that they have a full mesh upper. It's supposed to be snug! Otherwise they'd feel sloppy at faster paces. I guess that's what these hoka/altra wearing people want: sloppy squishy shoes that don't hurt their bunions. If that's your thing then don't by Nike. It's sort of like buying a sports car and then complaining about cargo space.
I like that they've trimmed off another 0.5oz. The pegasus now weighs less than what the elite 6 did. That's nice. I will probably ended up giving these are whirl. I found the peg 33 and 34 to be a bit clunky and probably will with these too but worth a shot because I like the full zoom cushioning system.

Amen to that. So stupid... I tried on a pair of Altras once and you could park a bus inside that toe box. Just a disgrace to all running shoes.
I liked the Pegasus 1 when it first came out. Actually it wasn't called Pegasus 1 it was just called Pegasus. It was a great shoe!

Have there been any anatomical/biomecanical studies that suggest the optimal size of toebox for a runner?

To the best of my knowledge, there have not been any studies assessing the optimal size of a toebox for runners. There is, however, widespread consensus amongst podiatrists (and those who understand the mechanics of the human foot a heck of a lot better than the LRC basement pundits) that shoes should not cramp and inhibit the natural function of one's foot/toes.
For those with narrower feet, the D-width Pegasus models are probably totally adequate. For those with slightly higher-volume (wider or with higher instep) feet, Altra products could be godsends.
Anybody have actual training run feedback on these? Is the upper actually fly knit? I cant afford to drop $120 on a disguised Free w/ air.
its a mesh upper. they are lighter then the old pegs. they also fit a bit more snuggly and securely than the old pegs. they are not frees with air. If the old pegs were a 7/10 for me, these are a 8/10 maybe 8.5/10.
Got it - thx. Had the 33s at $90 on sale - they were a bit heavy. These may be doable. That review above kept referring to “flyknit” - I can deal w/snug as long as the heel isn’t vice-like
If you have a review of the Peg 35s we'd love them for our Better Shoe Site. We're about to relaunch it and keep it permanently live but the one drawback is we don't have reviews of the newest shoes as it's been offline. You can review a shoe here
Only tried on in store and run a few times along a sidewalk. My thoughts:
Very comfortable. The heel fits nice and snug. Midfoot and forefoot fit snug but not overbearingly tight.
Cushioned well. Something about the shoe though I just can not see myself putting in full mileage in them. Appear more like a great shoe for easy short double runs to mix it up with.

Wrong. I have hallux limitus and a wide toe is helps that condition. Your absolute Moran.
10 ounces shoe- who would run with a brick like that?
Any shoe above 7 ounces is pure garbage
The toebox in the 34s was sloopy. A shallower, narrower toebox seems like a good idea. The 34 was pretty comfy and versatile, the 35 looks even better. Will try.
