We don't really have time for a moment of silence, the next school shooting will be in another day or two. This makes three school shootings in the last 8 days.

The NRA standard response, after children die is not the right time to talk about the problem. It’s the exact right time to talk about the problem. How any American children need to be shot to death before you realize this really is a gun issue? How many? When will it be enough?

The following is the LRC, NRA, Dana Loesch, and Brietbart sanctioned algorithm for assigning motive to a mass shootings:

3) Step three, is the shooter Hispanic by chance? If yes, the solutions are to build a MASSIVE border wall across our entire Southern border, permanently station US infantry / artillery / special forces along the US-Mexico border, end chain migration, deportation of all DACA recipients, and mandatory English education...TALK ‘Murican dammit! If the shooter is not Hispanic move to the next step below.
4) Is the shooter a teenager or a college kid? If yes, you’re done! The cause of the shooting is the nanny state, generational laziness, violent video games & movies, pre-marital sex, porn, and the absence of God (The Christian God) in schools. We need to ban all porn, ban all violent video games & movies, teach abstinence-only sex education, bring back school prayer, and slash all entitlement programs (except for Medicare and social security for the elderly...).
5) Can it be proven that the shooter is a registered Democrat? If yes, you’re done! The cause is the violent political ideology of the left. Didn’t you know the Nazis were Social Democrats? Didn’t you know that the Democratic Party of the early 20th century was pro-segregation? The only solution to save our Democracy is to have single party control of the Government and to make Trump & his family POTUS for life—that’s how you save Democracy!
6) Is the shooter a woman? If yes, this is a rare event but the cause is the loss of family values, no fault divorce, legalized abortion, easy access to contraception, and women’s inability to handle work related stress. We need to ban all abortion, contraception, and divorce to prevent such incidents in the future.
7) This is the final step. In this step the perpetrator is a white male that may or may not be a Christian. In these cases (which are the majority) the only possible explanation is mental illness. In these cases it is way too soon to discuss doing anything! After all we cannot overreact to these situations by passing EXTREME new laws! The only option is to turn to prayer and realize that we are helpless to prevent further similar incidents. After some time for prayer and reflection, the only reasonable possible solution is to arm every man, woman, and child with large caliber firearms and mandate open carry at all times.
Please follow the above algorithm at all times to insure a productive, reality based discussion of gun violence in America on the boards. That is all.

I’m anti-gun and I am furious about the school shootings, but I don’t think we can ban guns. I think we need some serious laws on guns, but I don’t think they will work. I honestly don’t think guns are the actual problem.
I think the problem is the fury and hate we have in our country. We have weaponized our hate through media and politics. We are programming our children to dehumanize each other instead of teaching them to respect and love each other. We don’t live in the same world as our fellow countrymen anymore. We don’t just not understand them, we actually hate them. From this vantage point, it’s very easy to see how WWII occurred. It’s such a quick, steep slope into chaos.
I don’t know what to do. I think we need MUCH stricter gun laws, because we honestly need to do something, but I don’t think the laws will actually help. I hope I’m wrong.
I just think it’s time for us to develop love, compassion, respect, and patience for our fellow man. This means all of us, not just one tribe. We’re all guilty.
Santa Fe High School is the 22nd school shooting in 2018 and the 101st mass shooting in America this year and it's only May.

The frequency with which school shootings serves to remind us that the US is a great democracy whose citizens have just about every freedom imaginable including the right to kill people while they worship and go to school. Few other countries can boast the same!
Another sickening day. We are such a great country and we should be able to find away to improve in this area - no other country has this problem to the extent that we do.
Our forefathers had incredible foresight in crafting the pillars of laws for our country, but this is one that they dropped the ball on, or at the very least left it too open for egregious interpretation.
Ban all cars and trucks. This will then stop all deaths caused by drunk drivers.

Law enforcement can take a ton of guns out of circulation.
If people want to shoot at targets, make target shooting centers where the guns don’t leave the facility.
Private citizens should not be able to own a gun. Especially high powered weapons

Your response is exactly what is wrong with the gun debate. Simply because if the government controlled military comes to your door, it doesn't matter what gun/guns you have it will end badly for you. However, having said that, your fear of a government controlled military is so highly unlikely that it scares me that people actually believe this would happen in the United States. Sad and pathetic thinking, and unfortunately with this mindset there isn't anything anyone can do or say to change your thinking.
This is the same school as Santa Fe ISD v. Doe, the US Supreme Court case about student lead Christian prayers before a football game. The USC held 6-3 that the prayer violated the establishment clause. The school has also been infamous in the Houston area for racism and discrimination against religious minorities. It is mostly white, but the Hispanic population has been growing. There are almost no African American kids at Santa Fe HS. It will be interesting to see what drove this kid to do this and whether the school's history of discrimination had anything to do with this.
Common link is these school shootings are all done by students.
