I'm driving through the hood - why do the hood people stare as you drive by?

When I'm driving through suburbia why does everyone stare at me? I'm just a black dude in a Subaru, nothing fancy.

This happens with everyone, no matter if you are black or white, and does not

matter what kind of car you are driving.

1. Being attentive to one's surroundings, to make sure that nothing dangerous is going to

happen.

2. Worrying or being overly concerned with what someone is driving or what they look like.

3. Simply responding to sound and body.

These goes with running, too. I can go running in a regular white neighborhood, and no one will look at me in a odd way or say anything, because white people are out running as well. However, If I run in a black neighborhood, I get all kinds of silly stares and comments, some good , some bad. I say nothing and just keep running.

This is why I always look straight ahead, no matter if I'm driving or walking, I never give any attention to people. I have had people tell me that I drove right past them, or walked right past them without saying anything.

Yeah, it depends on what kind of suburb it is. If it is a predominantly white area, with no other cultural aspects, then you might catch some stern looks.
