How many Americans have an 800 pb of sub-1:48 and 10k pb of sub 28:00? Alan Webb, Bernard Lagat, Garrett Heath.... And who?

Steve Scott ran some pretty fast road 10ks but I don't know what his best was off the top of my head. I'm fairly certain he never ran a 10,000 m on the track.

There are more than a few guys with 3:35-ish 1500 PRs but are 1:50-51.

Not sure if anyone else has done it, but I'd think a few on this list certainly could.

I'm sure Rupp could have one of those years he was running all those fast indoor times if he actually cared to focus on it for a couple races.

I also think Jenkins could squeak one in there if he cared about the 800m.

I'm sure there are plenty of athletes I'm unfamiliar with on this list that had the potential to, as well.

Really? Remember, Rupp lost to a walk on freshman in one of the more famous 800s in letsrun history.

Really? Have you forgotten about the day he ran 3:50 for the mile indoor at UW? He could have run 1:48 that season.

It is an unusual combination. Lopez Lomomg has run 1:45 and 28:21 and when he was in close to 13 flat shape a few years ago likely could have broken 28. I believe Tony Sandoval had decent 800m speed when young although I do not believe he ever broke 1:48. Maybe Sandoval ran 1:49.

lopez has a shot at breaking 28 again this year at either USAs or in Europe if he wants to. I doubt he will, but he's certainly capable

Yes Lomomg still could do it but I think he could have done it a few years back for sure. Another guy who might have had a chance was David Torrence, who ran 1:45 and 13:16.

But 1:49.12 at Stanford on May 8, 1999 is AG's PB per IAAF and I don't see anything better.

Come on Rojo, that particular troll attempt is too obvious. He ran almost 5 seconds faster than that 800 the year prior (1:50:00 in 2009), and three years after the "bad 800 race" he ran a 3:50 mile and 7:30i 3000,and in 2012 outkicked both Bekeles in the Olympic 10000. He certainly was capable of a sub 1:48.

In fact probably a good many on that list could have, had they ever concentrated on 800.

Shorter set ARs just a few days part in the 1972 Olympics. That is impressive. He did not medal in the 10k, but on September the 10th he won the marathon.
