portland, maine freshman sintayu taye ran a 4:13 1600 today (unofficial) which i beleive is a freshmen national record when converted to the mile. He was third in the race. Even more impressive is that he ran a 1:53 leg on the 4 by 8 before, and a 9:11 3200 after. His brother, a junior won the mile in 4:10 after splitting a 1:54 in the 4 by 8. Senior Eric Giddings was the tough luck loser in both races, running the mile in 4:11, and the 3200 in 9:16.

If Taye ran this 1:53/4:13/9:11 triple, he has replicated Andrew Bumbalough's triple from last year (when Bumbi was a JR).

Yea he's definatly relaly young looking....not to mention it's not like he was running 4 flat 3 years ago making you thikn he's actually 20. He was only a 430ish miler last year.
I don't see how it can be converted to a record. Even if it were 4:13.00 and you gave him the same pace for 1609 meters, that gives 4:14.42, which is slower than Miller's 4:14.26 for the full mile.
MIller's is for 1600 also.

No, it is the difference between a 1600m and a mile (1609m).
full mile is 1609 meters. People always confuse the 1600 meters with the mile. So thats what they mean by full mile: 1609 meters. I always say mile to my family to save myself some breathe.

What do you mean? For a freshman, this is pretty incredibly to run a triple like that. To put these times in perspective, Marius Bakken's triple, at the IL state meet when he was a senior, was 1.53, 4.14, 9.08. I am truly astonished by Taye.
Over in IL, highly touted frosh Kevin Havel finished 6th in the 3200, running a bit slower than 9.20. It seems that it must have been a tactical race, as Sean Macnamara's winning time was 9.15. Sean later also won the 1600, in 4.15. More amazing to me was that the winner of the 1600 in Class A, which is typically far slower that Class AA, ran 4.13. E. St. Louis won, while York took second- nearly all York's points came from the 1600 and 3200, where Yrok runners went 1-2 in each race. Plus won the 4x800.
The meet was a conference meet. States is next weekend, and New Englands the week after. Competition remains the same for the tayes next week as no one else in the state has run comperable times.
Crikey, that is one fast kid. Heres hoping he keeps improving, he could really be dynamite. Or he could burn out by the time he is a senior. Hope he ahs a good coach. His older bro is sounding pretty quick too.
10th grade dude from Royal who could have easily been in 9th grade by his age ran about 9:07 for the 3200 at the Sourthern Section in CA last night.
Ran about 4:38, 4:29 splits to finish 5th. He passed the 6th place guy about 10 meters from the finish.
