Recall that he returned from injury this winter. He's not going to be interested in running fast in April this year.

He did run nearly an even split in this race, which is a sign that he can run faster with 2 second positive splits.

What's up with the rush to call it a career?

I saw the race live. The pacer came out hot the first 100m and hit the 200m mark at 24 mid. Everyone else was well back and stayed there as the pacer hit 51.8. Murphy was in the middle of things and made a move on the backstretch to get into position. He was in good position off the final turn but got outkicked in the last 60m or so. The Murphy of the last few years would have walked by everyone given the relative pedestrian pace but this race was to be expected given his underwhelming indoor season. The conditions were near impeccable save for a slight breeze that picked up every few minutes. As far as I know most of the sprints during this afternoon session were wind legal.
